Oak Hall School invites qualified candidates to apply for a Lower School Art Teacher position, beginning August 2022. The Art Teacher will plan, prepare, and deliver a comprehensive, developmentally and intellectually appropriate, and creatively engaging art program to students from kindergarten through fifth grade.Key Responsibilities:Support the mission of Oak Hall SchoolPlan and creatively teach students how to express themselves through art, with developmentally appropriate lessons in multiple modes (e.g., clay, drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber arts, collage, and photography)Incorporate art history into the programCreate an environment that fosters creativity and allows students to behave as practicing artists who envision, express, observe, persist, develop craft, explore, reflect, and understand artFoster a vision of art that supports the mission of the schoolPromote a positive classroom environment and demonstrate strong classroom management skills to create and maintain a learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all studentsProvide active and engaging hands-on experiences as part of the curriculumWork collaboratively with the other Fine Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources, and develop opportunities to showcase collaborative Fine Arts effortsDevelop and execute a distinctive event to showcase art for Lower School students, annuallyWork collaboratively with the Lower School Music team to create sets, backdrops, and props, including student made art, for Lower School musicalsBe familiar with various technologies such as iPads to teach technology-inspired lessons such as iPad drawing and stop motion animationUtilize project based learningAssess and document each student's performance/progress to meet the School's standards, and provide feedback to students and their parents, as neededBe an active member of, and work collaboratively with, the Lower School team, the Fine Arts Department, and the greater Oak Hall communityServe as a mentor and advocate for your studentsBe a role model of integrity and professionalismSubmit weekly lesson plansMeet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including attending division and other school meetings, professional days, and other required events.Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materialsOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in Art or Art Education, requiredMaster's Degree, preferredThree years of experience as an Art teacher in similar position, preferredKnowledge of and practice in current art education and innovative approaches to teaching artPossess a working knowledge of traditional and contemporary modes of art makingAbility and willingness to assist with set, backdrop, and prop design and creation for musicalsBe comfortable and adept with the effective use of technology in the learning processKnowledge and understanding of various learning styles and differentiated instructionAbility to inspire, engage, empower, and educate and evaluate students with vigor and creativityA history of commitment to professional development and life-long learningThe ability to work positively and professionally with students, parents and facultyA high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of schoolAbility, willingness, and judgment to communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely with all constituents in a school environment, both verbally and in writingEnthusiasm and commitment to the vision and Mission of the SchoolCompensation includes comprehensive employee benefits package; salary is commensurate with background and experience.Qualified candidates should be prepared to upload a cover letter, resume, copies of transcripts
