Associate Director, Communications Job no: Work type: Staff Full-Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Communications/Public Relations/Marketing, Executive/Director/Management Department: - DCP-DEAN'S OFFICE Classification Title: Associate Director, Communications Job Description: This full-time position will serve as the key leader responsible for furthering the College of Design, Construction and Planning's mission and goals through the design, development and execution of a strategic communications plan to inform, educate and garner support on behalf of the college. This position will direct the long-range strategic planning, operations and administrative activities of the college's communications and marketing functions. The position will direct strategy, development and publication of communications initiatives and structures communications campaigns to achieve long-term and short-term organizational goals. The position analyzes the effectiveness of and establishes future direction for functional policies and programs, and manages the web developer and public relations specialist positions. This position is located in the Dean's Office of the College of Design, Construction and Planning and reports directly to the Senior Director of Advancement. Job Responsibilities: Direct the college's marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design and special events. Establish the direction, goals, implementation strategy and policies of these areas. Define communication strategies for organizational initiatives and oversees media relations in order to ensure consistency of messages and materials. Manages information and resources to meet immediate and long-range goals. Plans coordinates, directs research and helps determine both technical and business goals in consultation with management. Supervise web developer, and public relations specialist positions. Direct strategy, development and publication of communications and marketing initiatives. Structure communications and marketing campaigns to achieve long-term and short-term organizational goals. This may include coordinating a program to provide information data, and timely reports to the public, press, governmental agencies, and other institutions of higher education and/or the writing, design and publication of university and department catalogues, bulletins, programs, and related materials to ensure consistency of style and presentation. Direct all the college's electronic communications initiatives, including the college website, electronic publications and social media. Coordinate and advise on special projects as requested by the Dean. Manage or assist with college-wide special events, as requested by the Dean, including DCP Research Symposium, DCP Industry Expo, graduation ceremonies and open houses. Advise college administration, faculty and staff on issues related to communications, marketing, public and media relations, graphic design and special events. Maintain college news archives and historical data. Liaison for the College of DCP with the University of Florida Office of University Relations. Responsible for ensuring all college communications programs, activities and series comply with university, state and federal regulations. Advise and assist in planning, directing, and reporting college activities, and planning and implementing procedures within the college, including editorial production, bid specifications, the dissemination of information and publication needs. Assist in ensuring that goals and objectives of the college and the university are communicated and met, and provide leadership and policy direction as appropriate. Formulates and administers the annual communications budget. Meet on a quarterly basis with DCP academic unit leaders to discuss their marketing and communications needs. Will represent the college on university, system-wide or external committees related to marketing, communications, publications, public relations, graphic design and special events. Perform related duties as required or deemed appropriate to accomplish the responsibilities and functions of assigned area(s). Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Dean. Expected Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred: * Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe CC - in particular Adobe in Design and Photoshop * Experience with WordPress or other website content management systems * Proficiency managing social media platforms for organizations * Superior spelling, punctuation and grammatical skills; proficiency in Associated Press Style * Experience with the development and implementation of marketing and communications campaigns and editorial planning and coordination desired * Strong photography skills helpful * Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion Other Characteristics: * Excellent organizational skills, especially priority setting and attention to detail * Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills * Must be able to prioritize and work within deadlines * Must display independent judgment, initiative and sound decision making * Ability to create a strong relationship in a team environment with university administrators, faculty and staff Special Instructions to Applicants: Start date of position is July 1, 2020.
