Classification Title: Director of Research Operations and Development Job Description: This position will work with Senior Associate Dean of Research Affairs to provide strategic, tactical, and operational leadership of the research enterprise across the UF College of Medicine. The role includes developing and implementing strategic initiatives; leading enterprise change management; fostering collaborations with the research community across the university; and advising on policy, procedural and operational issues for the research enterprise. This position is also responsible for assisting with the operational and fiscal management of the Office of Research Affairs and its reporting units and serves as the lead administrative liaison and primary staff interface between the College of Medicine research enterprise and the institution.Strategic development
--- Provides planning guidance to executive leadership and tailored opportunities/insights to research leaders
--- Stewards grant agencies specific strategy statements with the input of faculty working groups
--- Identify opportunity/strategies for signature awards across the wide range of federal and private funding agencies
--- Tracks and reports on (prospective) university-sponsor engagements
--- Maintains a university presence with the sponsor, e.g., promoting portfolios of work to middle/senior managers
--- Organizes engagement trainings and sponsor research days together with senior project manager
--- Work together with Senior technical writer and editor on internal and external communications regarding COM research enterprise; serves as liaison to departmental research leadership faculty and staff.
--- Co-Lead with Director of Analytics and senior project manager development of virtual research office in partnership with Office of Communication and Web Services
--- Co-Lead with Director of Analytics and senior project manager special projects as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Research Affairs.Research administration
--- Develop and implement Grant Services & Analysis team to assist faculty in the entire award cycle -
--- Develop and maintain processes and teams to assist COM faculty in preparation for programmatic and large strategic research grant applications and preparation of COM training grants to include data collection for submissions, renewals and progress reporting, letters of support, dean's commitments and bridge funding.
--- Manages team for internal and external reviews of limited submission, early career, and large/signature proposals
--- With Director of Research Analytics manages team for COM research space assignments, data and space reporting; serves as COM DSA and GWA;
--- Manages reviews and approvals of proposals in UFIRST for cost sharing, waivers and deadlines
--- Establish and chair two committees with research administrators in COM units to facilitate grant processing and post-award management, provide professional network and continuing education for research administrative staff throughout the college.Supervision
--- Supervise Research Affairs Office Administrative Specialist II together with Director of Analytics and the Senior technical writer and editor together with senior project manager. Includes oversight of internal competitions and limited applications for the COM in coordination with the UF Office of Research.$120,000-$130,000 commensurate with education and experienceMaster's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate would hold scientific PhD and possess the experience and expertise in the application of business and change management principles as they relate to the operations of academic biomedical research, and have a substantial record of developing tools, infrastructure and policies that have positively impacted the investigative efforts and competitiveness of faculty at large.
