Job Description:

  • Assists the Director in selecting, training, supervising, developing, and counseling University Benefits staff to ensure that health & welfare and retirement benefit plans and programs are administrated appropriately; ensuring consistent high levels of customer service through the timely delivery of accurate information and timely processing of transactions.

  • Monitor processes, workloads and quality control. Review daily resource allocation needs. Forecast upcoming events and needed resources. Develop, implement and present various training programs for subordinates. Set performance expectations, train, coach, counsel, mentor, and discipline staff as appropriate. Perform cross-training and back-up support.


    • Manages aspects of the University Benefits Department including organization of daily operations, and providing technical and functional guidance to staff and to leadership.

    • Serves as the Retirement Coordinator joint liaison with the state's Division of Retirement.

    • Extensive coordination with the Division of Retirement including enrollments and plan changes.

    • Manages the day to day relationships with outside vendors including Brokers/Consultant, COBRA, FSA, and Dependent Verification administrators to ensure a high level of compliance and service is provided.

    • Proactively partners with the HRIS, HR Liaisons, Payroll, and other internal groups to achieve optimal results in customer delivery.

      Counseling and Problem Solving

      • Responds to and resolves escalated customer service-related issues communicating via telephone, email, letter and face-to-face.


        • Evaluates and as appropriate, develop and document Benefit policies, practices, and procedures; ensure that these policies and practices are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and are consistent with plan documents, insurance contracts, and other legal or regulatory documents.

        • Assist with execution of various projects and tasks that contribute to the design, implementation, communication, and day-to-day operational fulfillment of the benefit plans.

        • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of employee benefit issues; trends and regulations; network with peers, advisors, consultants, and regulators.

          Expected Salary:
          $73,000 - $78,000, commensurate with experience
          Minimum Requirements:
          Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
          Preferred Qualifications:

          • General knowledge of benefit and retirement plans as well as knowledge of the State of Florida benefit and retirement programs.

          • Experience in administration of benefit and retirement plans for a large organization.

          • Management experience in a customer-service oriented environment.

          • Master's degree in appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.
