ADMINISTRATIVE & SUPERVISORY - communication, motivation of employees to improve quantity and quality of work performed.a. Schedules assignments and vacations to maintain adequate coverage as per nursing procedures and needs of residents.b. Oversees the development and implementation of the appropriate sections of the medical/nursing care plan that is (1) based on holistic nursing assessments, (2) developed in concert with the interdisciplinary team, (3) designed to assure optimum health and the highest possible level of independent functioning for each person.c. Interviews and hires applicants upon the approval of the Executive Nursing Director in accordance with Human Resources' procedures.d. Regularly attends supervisory meetings and communicates with other supervisors as necessary.e. Communicates with the Executive Nursing Director concerning current and potential problems with recommended course of action.f. Ongoing communication with staff regarding progress, and changes in operating procedures, including holding formal staff meetings at least monthly.g. Participates in budgetary process by monitoring use of resources, staff and supplies.h. Performs supervisory Human Resources duties, including People First management, drafting SMART Objectives, setting expectations and performing all talent management functions.i. Completes performance evaluations within deadlines and supervises completion of all required documents/processes, such as HR referrals, termination, five-year background checks and health screening.j. Provide oversight and supervision of Agency contract nurses in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.k. Provides supervision of nursing staff throughout the center, on an as-needed basis. This is a floater position that may change primary supervisory duties and direct report personnel on a frequent basis.II. DIRECT SERVICE (This percentage may fluctuate depending on nursing needs)a. Provides direct nursing duties, including completion of medication passes, as directed by the Executive Nursing Director. Attends meetings and completes reports on behalf of nursing staff as needed. Direct nursing duties will be provided on a regular basis by being placed on the center-wide schedule, rotating with other nursing supervisors.b. Makes rounds daily to provide nursing supervision to ensure that quality nursing care remains high. This includes, but is not limited to, individual care, medication administration, nursing assessment, referrals, documentation and infection control measures. Provides guidance for nursing staff and direct services as needed.c. Provides on-call support during evenings and weekends, on a rotation with other nursing supervisors. In addition to troubleshooting, consulting with staff as needed, on-call responsibilities include reporting to Tacachale on all shifts if necessary, to complete direct nursing duties, such as medication administration.III. TEAM PARTICIPATIONa. Actively participates on nursing committees as assigned. Competently participates in center-wide committees as representative of the Nursing Department.b. Serves as interdisciplinary team member as necessary, providing in-services on medical treatments for residential staff.c. Supports other nursing supervisors and nursing staff as necessary to meet priority needs of residents, willingly pitching in to help as needed.e. Serves as resource to other departments, nursing personnel and the community to promote awareness and understanding of developmental disabilities.IV. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & QUALITY ASSURANCEa. Ensures that nursing practice follows state and federal licensure requirements, assisting with development and implementation of operating procedures pertaining to nursing practice.b. Ensures completion of staff training by keeping staff informed of due-dates and adjusting schedules to ensure that all mandatory training is completed within specified time frame. Encourages attendance at optional training events as schedules and opportunities allow.c. Regularly attends in-service training and participates in continuing education programs to maintain and improve professional and supervisory skills.d. Will comply with and monitor compliance of the mandatory requirements in section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 3A-24, Florida Administrative Code.Performs related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.Skilled in the use of emergency equipment within scope of training.Ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals with developmental disabilities.Ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use emergency equipment.Ability to stand, walk, sit and bend for periods in excess of three hours.Ability to assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, as needed.Ability to supervise staff, ensuring efficiency with time and attendance.Ability to provide in-service training to staff.Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.Ability to supervise records management systems and documentation of services.Ability to use all Microsoft applications, PPS and all office equipment.Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective relationships and team building with others.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds8. Licensure/registration/certification requirementsLICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSCurrent Registered Nurse License & CPR Healthcare Provider CertificationMINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)A valid Florida Driver's License. (If initially hired with an out-of-state license the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida State driver's license within 30-days of hire. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/ Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. License that have "Corrective Lenses Restricted," are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.Current Florida Registered Nurse License & CPR Healthcare Provider Certification.WORK SCHEDULEThis position is located at a 24- hour facility. Working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Regular days off Saturday and Sunday.This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.
