This announcement will be used to fill (1) Assistant Chief Nurse, Sterile Processing Service (SPS), Full-Time position at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SG VHS), Gainesville, Florida. The NF/SG VHS is affiliated with health care programs at local colleges/universities. Florida has a low cost of living and no state income tax.   • Provides executive input in the strategic planning, budget, mission, operational planning and policy development for the Sterile Processing Service.

  • Demonstrates substantial and continuous responsibility for directing, supervision and managing the Sterile Supply Service.

  • Aggregates data and demonstrates leadership in the budget process to plan for current, emerging and future resource requirements (financial, human, material and/or informational) for the Sterile Processing Service.

  • Manages planned and imposed change and ensures that the change is sustained through measurable means.

  • Identifies outcomes and stop gates that can be improved and leads the performance improvement process to improve and/or sustain clinical and administrative outcomes.

  • Identifies and develops and/or initiates programs to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.

  • Collects data regarding nonconformities and assists the supervisors in applying these to performance appraisals and plans for improvement.

  • Time and leave management as well as knowledge and oversight of FMLA, Advanced leave, and other special leave.

  • Supervises Assistant Section Chief, RME coordinator, and the SPS educator.

  • Performs VA Facility, VISN, National, and Private Sector Led inspections where RME is used for patient care and within SPS concerning reprocessing for all of NF/SG VHS.
  • Consistently role models the customer service performance expectations as established by CARE (connect, appreciate, respond, empower) model.

  • Knows, understands, ensures and consistently complies with VA information security and privacy policies, procedures, rules and regulations individually and within the Sterile Processing Service.

  • Identifies, assesses, develops, organizes, delegates, and implements policy design and review for all SPS SOPS concerning RME, and provides data and input for System Level Policies.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Occasional off tours and weekends to cover the needs of the service.

      • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) [formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] or The Commission Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
      • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

        Preferred Experience:

        • Master's degree is preferred, BSN Required

          Grade Determinations:

          • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
          • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of

            Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard.nursing practice/experience.

            Physical Requirements:

            Direct patient care work involves considerable walking and standing (up to 12 hours/day), pushing, pulling, bending, and heavy lifting (45 pounds and over). The incumbent accepts assignment on any tour of duty and in whatever area services are required.

            In-direct patient care work is mostly sedentary. Typically the employee sits comfortably to complete the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as patient records and supplies
