Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - Gainesville,
Florida
Duties
The Supervisor has working knowledge of all functions under
his/her purview and can direct and/or operate all the diagnostic
specialties to assure its
many activities and to provide efficient patient care. The
supervisory area of responsibility
encompasses the Ultrasound section of Diagnostic Imaging Service.
The incumbent is
given general guidelines and directions from the Chief Technologist
and Imaging Program
Administrator and is expected to function with initiative and
independent judgment in his
or her sphere of responsibilities. The incumbent will formulate
plans, delegate authority
and follow-up on delegated tasks to assure effectiveness of
assignments given to
subordinate lead and staff technologists. Assigns work and
employees based on the
difficulties of assignments and the capability of the employee.
Assigns, directs and reviews
work in progress, or upon completion, to ascertain problems and
takes required corrective
action.
The incumbent assures that the Ultrasound section has appropriate
coverage in their section.
Approves/disapproves all overtime and leave requests, ensuring
proper coverage for the
assigned sections is available. Oversees established holiday
assignment roster and assures
coverage in each section is properly assigned. Incumbent will
prepare meeting agendas, inservice
presentations and hold monthly meetings with staff to communicate
changes and
expectations for each section under their supervision. The
incumbent develops tours of duty
and assigns tours for his/her section(s), encompassing all leave
requests.
Incumbent will participate as Interview Panel Members, evaluating
candidates for positions
in the section and making recommendations for employment.
Incumbent will have thorough knowledge of the processes for
Reusable Medical
Equipment. Incumbent will have thorough knowledge of SOP's that
documents the process
and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and
preparation of Reusable
Medical Equipment.
The Supervisor must have a good working knowledge of the
appointment and scheduling
system in VistA. The individual must comply with VA directives and
regulations concerning
scheduling and canceling appointments to assure that they meet the
criteria. Incumbent must
assure that appointments are rescheduled within the appropriate
time frames as outlined in
hospital directives or memoranda.
The Supervisor is delegated to act in the absence of the Chief
Technologist.
The incumbent collaborates with the Chief Technologist and Program
Administrator in
formulating and implementing administrative and operational
policies/procedures for
assigned sections.
The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and coordinating
repairs of all Medical
Imaging/Non-imaging equipment in areas assigned under their
supervision. This includes
testing, maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and when
possible makes minor repairs
and or contacts repair personnel.
The incumbent works with the Chief Technologist and Program
Administrator in developing
administrative and operational plans when necessary to meet
challenges, deadlines, priorities,
and increased productivity to improve the flow of work in Services
based on analysis of such
factors as manpower, equipment utilized, workload, available
examination of facilities, and
personnel required for various examinations which requires controls
and records and
coordination with other professional services.
Incumbent will assist with Performance Improvement, and is
responsible for overseeing
departmental monitors and evaluations, as well as overseeing the
design and fostering of
approaches to continuously improve the quality of the
interdepartmental activities. Incumbent
strengthens lines of communication with all other supervisors and
administrative staff, as well
as the Radiologists and other personnel within the department.
Supervisors will facilitate a
team approach in communicating information with other supervisors
and helping to solve
inter-departmental issues. Will keep abreast of all Joint
Commission educational policies, and
under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Imaging
Administrator, oversees the
Radiology Service's Continuing Education Program for the sections
under his/her purview,
including all Technologist Competency folders. Plays a key role
preparing the Radiology
Service for the Joint Commission inspection and maintains all Joint
Commission. Assists with
updating and revising all American College of Radiology department
policies and procedural
manuals in accordance with ACR guidelines.
Assists in preparing the department for the Systematic External
Review Program Inspections
such as CAP, OIG, and GAO. Keeps abreast in all Occupational
Safety, Health Administration
(OSHA) regulations and changes, and recommends and implements such
changes within the
Radiology Service Policy and Procedures.
