Director of Clinical Services Behavioral Health (Multiple Locations) Industry: Healthcare / Health Services Social Services / Mental Health Job Category: Medical / Health Therapy Location: Multiple locations (office space available at primary site) Employment Type: Full-time, fully onsite Position Summary The Director of Clinical Services oversees clinical programs within a behavioral health hospital treating patients with mental health and substance use disorders. The role is responsible for clinical leadership, program development, regulatory compliance, and staff supervision, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across all clinical services. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management Provide strategic direction and day-to-day oversight for clinical teams, including therapists, social workers, and related staff. Ensure efficient clinical operations, effective collaboration between departments, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Serve as a key member of the facility leadership team, making independent clinical decisions to support quality outcomes. Align clinical services with organizational mission, values, and strategic initiatives at both facility and corporate levels. Program Development & Implementation Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based clinical programs to meet community and patient needs. Integrate evidence-based practices into treatment planning, measurement-based care, and group/individual interventions. Lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and resource utilization. Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS). Monitor clinical performance metrics, implement corrective actions, and support performance improvement initiatives. Oversee clinical documentation and reporting to maintain accurate, timely, and compliant patient records. Ensure adherence to safety, infection control, and standards of care across all clinical programs. Staff Development & Supervision Supervise, mentor, and support clinical staff, promoting professional growth and competency. Provide or coordinate clinical supervision for staff, including support toward licensure where applicable. Ensure staff are trained in and consistently implement evidence-based assessments, measurement-based care, and interventions; conduct fidelity monitoring and provide ongoing training when needed. Manage hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management of clinical staff. Review caseloads regularly to ensure appropriate utilization of services and workload balance. Oversee training and compliance for required certifications (e.g., CPR, de-escalation). Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with hospital leadership to align clinical services with broader organizational initiatives. Serve as a liaison between clinical teams, administration, and external partners, fostering clear and effective communication. Engage with community organizations, referral sources, and healthcare partners to enhance patient access and support program growth. Additional Responsibilities Direct crisis intervention efforts and oversee complex case planning and care coordination. Maintain a limited direct-care caseload when needed and provide on-site coverage for other programs. Develop and maintain operating policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and best practices. Prioritize patient safety, address concerns, and resolve complaints when needs are not met. Participate in on-call rotation as required by the facility. Support business development efforts, including community education and relationship-building with referral sources. Qualifications Education Master s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field (required). Licensure / Certifications Fully independent state clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT or equivalent). CPR and de-escalation certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). Experience 5 7 years of clinical leadership experience in behavioral health. Demonstrated success in program development, staff supervision, and operational oversight in mental health and/or substance use treatment settings. Experience working with regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS) and ensuring compliance. Preferred Experience in an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health hospital or residential setting. Familiarity with performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma). Minimum Education: Master s degree (fully licensed, no longer under supervision).
