This position is a full-time Physician located at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, assigned to the Psychiatry section, Behavioral Medicine Service as a Psychiatrist - Inpatient Psychiatry service. The primary purpose of the position is to provide behavioral health services for Veteran patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatry service, however services may also be provided in other areas of the medical center as well(i.e., medical inpatient, Emergency Department, Community Living Center and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment, etc.). On-call services are required. Participation in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program is also expected. The selectee reports to the Chief, Behavioral Medicine Service or their designee. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides general adult psychiatric care, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consults, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy. Provides direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate. Serves a population which consists of male and female Veterans of all ages and common diagnoses include anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other Serious Mental Illnesses, Dementias, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries. Cooperates with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to veterans in need of psychiatric services. Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; Provides a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Financial Disclosure Report : Not Required The selectee for this position may be eligible for an award up to maximum limitation under previsions of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) subject to the availability of funds. EDRP applies to new hires only . Current VA employees are not eligible. Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Psychiatry Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: There are no physical requirements for providers. They must only be able to practice medicine according to their privileges, in a manner that presents no danger to themselves or others.
