Job Description:

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking an Image Guidance Technician to join is surgical team. This position is responsible for the operation of surgical image guidance equipment including image acquisition equipment, such as Medtronic O-Arm, as well as assisting in the fabrication of bone replacements in various surgical settings under the direct supervision of a physician.

Surgical Navigation

Operates a Surgical Navigation Station surgical in various surgical environments to aid surgeons in various surgical procedures, including neuro, dental, maxi-facial and ENT procedures. At the time of this procedure the Image Guidance Technician is the only knowledgeable individual in the operating room and has to exercise his or her judgment to ensure that all processes have met the required spatial fidelity so that the necessary accuracy is provided for each type of surgical procedure.

O-Arm Navigation

Operates the Iso-C and/or O-Arm image guidance to acquire anatomic images, which are used to plan and navigate during surgical procedures. Participates in various surgical procedures including shunt placement, craniotomy, adult and pediatric spine, maxi-facial and ENT. Participate in providing Image Guidance during intraoperative MR surgical procedures. The Image Guidance Technician is responsible for not only maneuvering very large imaging gantries into existing sterile environments but must also ensure that infrared tracking of the imaging equipment as well as the patient's dynamic reference is appropriate for subsequent guiding of instrument implantation.

3D Bone Flap Processing

Using patient specific imaging and 3D printing, create 3D to be used to fabricate bone replacements to be used in patients. Creates 3D skull mold, transports mold for sterilization, transports sterilized mold to the operating room, and creates a replacement bone using PMMA or equivalent approved implantable material.

Prepares Equipment for Surgery

Ensures equipment (CT and MR scanners) are sterilized and calibrated for each procedure/patient

Expected Salary:

$55,000-$60,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience in an operating room.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with stealth surgery technology, o-arm/c-arm operation
  • Previous experience with creating 3D anatomical replicas
  • Attention to detail
