The ideal candidate will also have experience overseeing work crew safety and discipline, and overseeing the performance of all required tests on newly constructed and maintained gas main and service lines. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSGraduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Four years responsible experience in construction, operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of gas distribution systems, including operation of applicable excavation equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.Completion of the GRU Gas Worker Progression Through Training program or industry equivalent.LICENSES/CERTIFICATESValid Florida Drivers License required. NOTESWork requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform essential functions.Work may require exposure to prolonged high noise levels requiring the use of personal protective equipment.Requires the ability to use respiratory protection equipment in compliance with OSHA regulations.Must participate in the GRU Progression Through Training Program for the Lead Gas Worker position.Pre-employment medical examination required, including satisfactory drug screening. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of managerial responsibility and from lower classes by its lead worker duties and leadership skills.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSGraduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must comply with all applicable federal drug screening programs ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSOversees the construction, operation, maintenance, inspection and repair of gas service and main lines and gas distribution valves.Oversees the retirement of main service lines and meter installations.Oversees and inspects work of assigned personnel. Assigns duties and responsibilities to assigned personnel.Oversees work crew safety and discipline.Oversees taps into pressurized main and service lines.Oversees the performance and inspection of fusion welds.Oversees the performance of all required tests on newly constructed and maintained gas main and service lines.Conduct performance evaluations of personnel qualifying to perform covered tasks.Conduct annual performance reviews of assigned personnel.Directly observes personnel in the performance of covered tasks as required by the Operator Qualification Program.Oversees public safety, including traffic control, at work-in-progress sites.Directs work of employees covered under the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) Drug Testing Program.Responds to emergencies.May be required to provide after normal working hours standby duty.Trains subordinate personnel in the construction, operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of gas distribution facilities.Assists or performs work of subordinates.Performs final field review of field maps for main and service lines, locations of valves, and leak repairs.Reviews final field records and reports in a timely manner.Assures proper performance of safety checks on assigned vehicles and routine maintenance on construction equipment.Insures that all pertinent utilities have located their facilities prior to gas construction work.May be required to directly observe and direct leak detection or line location functions and pipe-to-soil readings.Attends work on continuous and regular basis.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSFinal review of construction site clean-up activities. May frequently chauffeur other employees, depending upon assignment and work location.May be required to transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (other than cans of gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or access to normal janitorial cleaning materials) or may be responsible for facilities or equipment carrying current fluids or gas that could endanger the public or other employees.Performs other related duties as assigned. SELECTION FACTORSThorough knowledge of methods, practices, and materials used in construction, operation, and maintenance of gas facilities.Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and procedures, including traffic control, in the gas industry.Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal rules concerning construction, operation, and maintenance of gas facilities.Thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, including the General Operation and Maintenance Procedure and Gas Department Construction Manuals.Thorough knowledge of City and County geography.
