Student SNAP Driver
Supports all activities of the Student Nighttime Auxiliary
Patrol (SNAP) Service providing nighttime safe ride service to
University students. SNAP Student Employees fill multiple roles as
needed each night: driving UF TAPS service vehicles to transport
students across campus safely, riding shotgun as a navigator while
using a tablet to accept, route and schedule requested rides, and
working dispatch to oversee the nightly request volume, answer
phones, track vehicle movements and maximize efficiency of SNAP
operation. This position is required to have a safe driving record
and excellent driving skills, basic knowledge of computer and
tablet operation, ability to handle multiple functions while
remaining on schedule, and excellent customer service with a great
attitude and professional demeanor.
Position duties include:
+ In the Driver role, operates UF Transportation and Parking
Services vehicles, primarily 15-passsenger vans, to provide safe
nighttime transport to designated stops for students and staff as
well as students and staff with mobility-related disabilities in a
safe, efficient and courteous manner. Follows defined policies,
procedures and traffic/roadway driving laws at all times. Utilizes
department-provided equipment to remain in regular communication
with dispatch, supervisors and fellow drivers while staying on
+ In the Navigator role, assists the driver by operating TapRide
app on tablet to accept student ride requests throughout the night.
Selects the most efficient route for passengers requesting
transport, prioritizes requests to ensure safest service for
student groups, assists the driver when reversing and communicating
with passengers and provides the driver with another set of eyes
+ In the Dispatcher role, answers all telephone calls at the
SNAP office and enters phone requests into TapRide. Monitors global
radio discussion and TapRide dashboard to observe vehicle capacity,
productivity and unaccepted ride requests, and provides oversight
and direction to ensure the most efficient overall operation of
SNAP service. Provides additional support for Drivers and
Navigators as needed.
+ Performs required pre-trip vehicle inspections, keeps the
interior of the vehicle clean and alerts supervisor of all needed
repairs and maintenance.
+ Performs required end-of-shift cleaning and vehicle
inspections and maintains all assigned equipment in good working
+ Have a valid Class "E" or higher Florida driver's license.
+ Have a good driving record and skills.
+ Have a positive attitude and great customer service
+ Must be currently enrolled at the University of Florida with a
minimum of six credits per semester (half-time) and maintain a GPA
of at least 2.0 for Fall and Spring semester.
+ Must be in good financial standing with UF.
+ Able to work nights until 3:15 am.
+ Able to see clearly at night.
Previous experience with driving large vehicles.

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work
on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel
Services (OPS) or Federal Work-Study (FWS) and must maintain a 2.0
grade point average. Registered students are employed on a
part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
