SummaryThis position is located at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Florida. The position is assigned to the Electrical Shop within the Maintence and Repair sections of Engineering, in Facilities Management Service(FMS). The employee works as an Electrician under the direction of the Electrician Supervisor. Major duties of the position include both electrical construction and electrical maintenance. Learn more about this agency ResponsibilitiesThe Electrician performs, as assigned any combination of the following electrical work:- Shall install, modify, repair, troubleshoot, and test new and existing electrical system from underground primary 12 KVA (12,470) volts to secondary 5KVA (4,160) to 480/277 to 208/120 volts.- Services and maintains secondary distribution systems and protection equipment, storage batteries and chargers.- Installs modifies, and repairs flexible cords and cables, lighting fixtures, heaters, receptacles, outlets, circuit breakers, switches, relays and controllers. This requires him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently handles, lifts, carries and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, he may lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds.Working Conditions: The work is performed in all areas of the hospital environment, including general medical and surgical, and tuberculosis wards, inside and outside, and is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather and in work areas that are noisy. He is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. He is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
