Must satisfactorily complete local, state and national criminal history and fingerprint checks. Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.Must successfully obtain the FDLE Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Certification within 6 months of employment or upon assignment which requires access to the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment; re-certification required every two years. This is a Level One FDLE certification.Position Summary:This is responsible professional and supervisory work in the Department of Court Services.This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for supervising County probation activities. Work includes the supervision of subordinate professionals to ensure the efficient and effective operation of program activities.Work is performed under the general direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.Examples of Duties:ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSExudes a positive customer service focus.Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication.Supervises designated functions and/or programs.Makes decisions regarding court related issues, complaints and enforcement of policies.Develops goals and objectives for program area in concert with a higher level supervisor. Sets priorities to achieve goals.Recommends the selection of new employees; recommends disciplinary actions.Develops and maintains policies, procedures for program area; ensures implementation by staff.Monitors the investigation and supervision of probationers sentenced in the County Court.Prepares reports, correspondence, statistical data and other information as required by an administrative superior and all components of the judicial system.Analyzes statistical data and other reports concerning all aspects of the probation program and makes recommendations to an administrative superior based on studies.Supervises the compiling of case records and other reports in automated case management and ensures the accuracy of all statistical reports.Coordinates activities with various criminal justice agencies and judges.Represents agency at meetings and conferences concerned with area of responsibility.Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.NOTE: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various kinds of work performed in positions allocated to this class. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESConsiderable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures for supervising County Court probationers.Considerable knowledge of all federal, state and local legislative, regulatory and judicial requirements pertaining to County Court probation.Considerable knowledge of the operation of the criminal justice system and process.Considerable knowledge of community resources available to probationers and current knowledge of counseling and rehabilitation techniques utilized in the criminal justice system.Skill in the use of a personal computer for data entry, access and retrieval of information.Ability to interpret and explain laws for application to policies for service delivery.Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of professional level employees, select and develop a capable staff, enforce disciplinary procedures and effectively appraise employee performance.Ability to react promptly and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to prepare and organize written reports.Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.Ability to plan, organize work and manage time effectively.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
