Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE Responsible for managing accounting operations, providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist Vice President of Accounting and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. Complete fiduciary oversight in any/all financial matters. Perform administrative duties related to business needs and partner with other company managers to ensure a safe and healthful environment for all employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage accounts payable activities confirming the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, petty cash, sales tax, property tax, cash control.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities ensuring correct and timely management of tenant accounts.
  • Continuously review all accounting department internal processes for efficiency and effectiveness and update as needed.
  • Authorize Bank account disbursals and fund transfers.
  • Perform periodic internal audits.
  • Maintain banking relationships for investments, checking accounts and borrowing.
  • Ensure financial and accounting functions, financial controls, and accompanying records meet all federal, state, local, and company regulatory requirements.
  • Administration of accounting software, liaison between Company and Yardi.
  • Liaison with outside CPA firms, attorneys, bankers, and investors regarding all financial matters.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audit and tax preparation processes.
  • Manage all Human Resource functions:
  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll and post to financial records.
  • Review third party payroll tax filing to ensure accuracy.
  • Determine and evaluate ongoing staffing needs and make recommendations to President.
  • Recruit and hire new employees, create and/or maintain job descriptions, oversee onboarding.
  • Assist in employee job termination, manage terminations of benefits.
  • Maintain employee handbook.
  • Manage employee benefit administration, oversee annual enrollments, new hire enrollments, and terminations.
  • Process monthly benefit invoices.
  • Ensure employee files are maintained.
  • Act as administrator for 401(k) plan, ensuring compliance with plan documents, correct funding of accounts, and review annual 5500 filing.
  • Manage annual renewal for workers' compensation policies and annual audit.
  • Assist with annual company and property insurance renewals.
  • Act as team player, participate in internal committees and special projects as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, build safety standards, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the work activities and performance accounting staff.QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • BA/BS degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university. Master's in accountancy or MBA preferred.
    • CPA required. More than 10 years of service in similar role can be substituted for this requirement.
    • Must have a minimum of ten years related accounting experience with increasing responsibilities.
    • Must have experience in a multi entity environment.
    • Demonstrated experience leading an accounting team of at least five staff members.
    • Demonstrated real estate and/or construction accounting experience.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP practices, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and income tax.
    • Significant working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing financial and accounting practices.
    • Must have experience managing human resources, payroll, employee benefits, and 401(k) plans.
    • Working knowledge of banking operations.
    • Working knowledge of tax law.
    • Working knowledge of commercial real estate management, standard contracts, and commercial lease language and terms.
    • Contract negotiation experience.
    • IT/Systems knowledge and skills highly desirable. Computer Skills
      • Advanced working knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
      • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft software applications (E.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
      • Advanced working knowledge of property management accounting software highly desirable; MRI experience preferred. Required Attributes

        • Ability to monitor and analyze information and solve problems on a strategic and tactical level.
