Job Description:
The University of Florida (UF) College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences' (CLAS) Academic Advising Center (AAC) is accepting
applications for an academic advisor position as Assistant In UF
Online Advising. The appointment is a renewable 12-month,
time-limited, non-tenure track position in Gainesville, FL, with an
anticipated start date in June 2023.
Applicants should be detail oriented and have: a strong ability to
prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
experience working with diverse populations; the ability to work
both autonomously and as a part of a team; an appreciation for a
liberal arts and sciences background.
This academic advising position will work primarily with CLAS
students enrolled in the UF Online program butis not a remote
position. The advisor will work closely with distance learners by
providing full academic advising services in accordance with AAC
best practices; as well as answering general inquiries; assisting
with the development and delivery of online orientation,
transition, and success programs; creating academic plans; and
monitoring academic progress. The advisor may also receive
cross-training to acquire career and success coaching
competencies.
In addition to the specific duties listed above, this position will
contribute to the mission of the AAC by performing general duties
including: advising undergraduate students in CLAS UF Online majors
on academic requirements and policies, as well as students seeking
admission to those majors; advising students in the development and
completion of their academic and career goals; participating in
various Academic Advising Center programs and initiatives including
presenting academic workshops; working with UF's orientation
programs for freshmen and new transfer students; serving as a
liaison to Beyond120 by collaborating with Beyond120 faculty to
create career resources for UF Online students. Advisors may also
have the opportunity to teach UF's first-year experience
course.
Expected Salary:
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits
package.
Minimum Requirements:
A Master's degree is required, preferably in student personnel,
higher education, educational technology, counseling, or a related
field along with relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in academic advising; experience advising
distance/online students; strong computer skills.
