Then this role may be for YOU!HIGH VOLTAGE SUBSTATION ELECTRICIANThe Energy Delivery Department of Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) currently has openings for Journey level Substation Electricians or highly skilled apprentice electricians to install, maintain and repair electric substation equipment. You will also have the opportunity to learn a wide range of skill sets (beyond industry standards).Salary within the substation career classification will be determined based on education, experience and training of selected candidates.The typical successful candidate is friendly, eager to learn, extremely proficient with tools, organized, dedicated to dependable and loves hard work.To be considered for this position you must have graduated from high school or have an acceptable equivalency diploma; completion of an approved apprentice level Substation Electrician training program and three (3) years' experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of substation equipment or five or more years of relevant substation electrician experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. * Salary based on experience. Hiring in the position places you in a professional training program with incremental pay increase based on obtaining proficiency.LICENSES/CERTIFICATES* A valid Florida Driver's License is required.* Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class "A" Instructional permit required at time of appointment.* Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class "A" with tanker endorsement required within six (6) months after appointment.* The ideal candidate will have experience in the service, maintenance, repair, testing, operation, installation and calibration of equipment associated with utility electric substation facilities, including transformers, circuit switchers, circuit breakers, switch gear, voltage regulators, controls, metering, instrumentation, and related apparatus; and completion of an utility substation electrician training program. Proficient computer and leadership skills are desired. New hire will operate, install, maintain, test and repair power circuit breakers, switches, power transformers, panel boards, battery systems, distribution apparatus from 12V (DC) through 230KV (AC).Preference for:Skilled senior level journeyman level substation electriciansConsiderable knowledge in high voltage switchingPrevious utility work experienceNotes:* Popular Monday through Thursday work schedule* Attention to training and technical skill development annually* Teamwork is problem solving substation repair and maintenance* Wide variety of work with individualized OJT* Work requires physical strength and agility; exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals;* Ability to use respiratory protection equipment in compliance with OSHA regulations;* Opportunity to learn at uniquely designed and smaller utility* Increase proficiency with equipment, learning best practices directly from manufacturer* Ability to work at heights of over 100 feet on open grating or from aerial devices may be required;* Frequent exposure to confined spaces and must be able to pass through a 20" manhole.* Frequent work with energized high voltage systems* Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.* Upon employment, candidate must reside within the boundaries of Alachua County or have a 40-minute or less response time to the intersection of NW 39 Avenue and 34 Street in Gainesville. * Call substation recruiter if you have questions? 352-334-5077Persons hired into this classification must participate in the GRU Progression Through Training Program (PTTP) for the Substation Electrician classification.May fill multiple positionsMay establish an eligibility list for future hiring.May require additional assessmentsMay under fill positionJob DescriptionNATURE OF WORKSkilled, journey level work in operating, installing, maintaining, testing and repairing electric substation equipment.CLASSIFICATION STANDARDSPositions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under limited supervision.
