In addition, the underwriting technician keeps the flow of new, renewal and endorsement tasks documented and moving through the processes within the department workflow. In some cases, the position requires use of independent judgment, but, typically, relies on pre-established guidelines or granted authority to perform the primary job functions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-- Prepare and review application, cancel, endorsement and renewal review tasks for release or to ensure that all required documentation is present for an underwriter handling based on assigned level of authority and referral guidelines.-- Assesses & processes new/renewal business within a limited underwriting authority level.-- Supports the Underwriting Unit in loss control review & compliance follow up, outstanding file documentation, and other general underwriting tasks.-- Responds to and conducts regular follow-ups with agents and underwriters for additional underwriting information.-- Handles new & renewal business within a limited underwriting authority level.-- Processes policy endorsements in line with authority or as approved. .-- Provide full assistance and support for the production process.-- Research and follow through with requests for missing information from agency partners.-- Following up with agents for information requests on reviewed tasks.-- Maintains a high level of customer service.-- Support and participation in various projects based on Operational and Corporate Underwriting Team needs.-- Additional duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Qualified candidates must be able to display exceptional communication skills with respect to gathering, organizing, and communicating information to the Underwriting Team and other departments including management.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must possess the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to write simple correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY:Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:No certificates, licenses or registrations required.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of internet/intranet software and the MS Office products including Word, Excel, and Access.
