Biological Scientist II
Develop, Implement, and Conduct Experiments -
Define goals and objectives for several research projects in
conjunction with faculty and staff. Perform scientific experiments,
collect and evaluate data. Make soil, plant canopy, and root
measurements in the field. Prepare soil, leaf, fruit, and juice
samples for analysis. Program and retrieve data from data loggers
in the field. Calibrate and evaluate soil moisture probes.
Develop evaluation procedures for new equipment, analyze present
methodologies, formulate hypotheses.
Install, maintain, and manage several irrigation systems.
Oversee field plantings. Maintain irrigation records and data files
in an organized manner.
Operating laboratory equipment and troubleshooting, conducting
data quality control and make sure equipment are well
Assist in supervision of other laboratory and field
Statistical Analyses -
Use SAS, R, or Sigmaplot spreadsheets, and other statistical
computer packages to analyze data. Plot data to show trends. Do
regression analyses and indicate when treatment differences are
Presentations and Publications -
Prepare written reports on research findings based on data
collected. Prepare scientific publications in coordination with
faculty. Review scientific literature and suggest future
experiments. Prepare graphics using PowerPoint etc. for oral
Present scientific information for presentation at scientific
and public meetings.
Assist in writing grant proposals.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely
related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master's
degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of
relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely
related field. Preferred Requirements: Computer experience with
spreadsheets and statistical packages is desirable. Special
